Suncreen Causes Cancer?!

Happy Monday! The Jersey shore was beautiful this weekend. As I was lying out skimming some magazines, I found a very important tip of the day... Some of the chemicals commonly found in sunscreen cause cancer. This blog therefore will be devoted to recommending some safe sunscreens that will protect your skin now with out damaging it in the long term.

Tip of the Day: First of all, sunscreen no longer works after it is three years overdue. So toss all those old bottles (you can check expiration dates), because they are no longer protecting your skin. Second, you need to look out for the common additives of retinyl palmitate and oxybenzone because they have been shown to cause cancer!! The new thing that you want in your sunscreen is ferulic acid or soybean based sunscreen because it protects you from UVB (blocked by SPF) AND UVA rays (which SPF doesn't cover). If you want to look up your own safe sunscreens click on this site to see the breakdown of ingredients and risks.

Otherwise, try SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic for a great sun protector for your face. Burt's Bees has a great SPF 30 for your body that uses natural ingredients rather than common harmful chemicals.

As I said before, it's better to use a fake tanner and keep your skin protected than to permanently damage it. You will thank yourself later for investing in good sunscreen and throwing out the old bottles that are actually damaging your skin every time that you apply. Buying a hat and umbrella also are great ideas to keep you comfortable and enjoying the beach. Let's not fry ourselves when we can get a beautiful glow from tan in a can and keep our skin young and fresh.

Have a great week!
